What you’ll experience in ABC Music and Me class:
Singing. Through games, and interactive musical play, your child will develop the confidence needed to sing. Sometimes the “ta’s” and “ti-ti’s” sound like a foreign language, but they are the language of professional musicians and composers and prepare your child to read and write rhythm patterns.
Focused listening. Intentional listening to music and sounds improves attention skills and direction following, which helps to ensure early school success. Discriminatory listening assists the child to listen deliberately (rather than just passively), and to use cognitive skills and deductive reasoning to determine what the sound is.
Literacy skills. Your child will develop phonetic awareness and the early reading skills needed in school, and the opportunity to express those sounds clearly, and integrate new language into an ever increasing vocabulary.
Creative movement. Dancing develops body control, sharpens direction-following skills, emphasizes teamwork, and builds community. Open movement gives your child the opportunity to explore what they can do and build on it, and practice what they are learning to do.
Balance. This class provides a pressure-free approach to learning, but concrete enough because your child’s mind is ready for the more abstract thinking processes that music requires. Play remains the primary a young child learns, so throughout the curriculum there is a consistent effort to balance active learning with the emotional reasoning aspects of a young child’s development in mind.
Music appreciation. Your child will be introduced to composers, songs, and styles from around the world in a variety of genres, such as classical, jazz, and folk. Your child will be introduce to music vocabulary, pre-music reading, and more complex music concepts.
Ensemble. This class provides the optimum environment to develop teamwork and cooperation skills through ensemble-playing. These guided and fun sessions provide opportunity for vocal exploration, movement and instrument play.
