What you’ll experience in Kindermusik For The Young Child class:
Singing and vocal development. Through games, and interactive musical play, your child will develop confidence in their ability to use an expressive voice, including a singing voice.
Whole body and hand movement.By dancing expressively and moving to rhythms and beat patterns, your child develops body confidence and improves physical coordination. By playing musical instruments, your child develops fine motor skills for success as a musician and as a student. Hand and eye coordination is fostered in a wide range of child-engaging activities.
Active listening and music appreciation.Through focused listening activities, your child will learn to distinguish the sounds of specific musical instruments, and be exposed to a wide variety of musical styles from around the world and a variety of classical composers. This skill further enhances your child’s ability to read and effectively communicate.
Reading and writing music.Fun, integrated activities introduce your child to music theory, rhythm notation, and reading musical notes on the treble clef scale, the c scale. Your child will even compose their own music!
Exploring and playing musical instruments.Through the 4 semester sequence, your child will learn to play pre-keyboard (glockenspiel), string, and wind instruments from around the world This gives your child the opportunity to explore interests as well as succeed on developmentally appropriate instruments before taking on more formal music instruction. Kindermusik provides the perfect stress-free environment where the PROCESS of musical learning is encouraged, not the PERFORMANCE.
Semester One (Fall 2010) –Everything your child learns later in semesters 2, 3, and 4 begins with this early introduction to singing, reading, and writing music and rhythm. Through dances and games that focus on rhythmic development, we’ll learn a keyboard instrument—the glockenspiel—which will be used throughout all the Young Child classes. Your At Home Materials provide playful activities to enhance the classroom learning in your home environment.
Home Materials (Fall 2010): Children’s Folder with stickers, games bag, and Music At Home Cards, Family Songbook, Home CD of music from class, glockenspiel with carry case, and musician’s bag (during first semester).
Semester Two (Spring 2011) –Playing simple musical patterns and songs on the glockenspiel is a central focus this semester. While learning to sing a melody, and then play the pattern on the glockenspiel, your child will also explore musical concepts of piano and forte. Peter and the Wolf is highlighted as we learn about the musical families of the orchestra.
